How long does gold plating last?
Gold plating can last a lifetime. This will all depend on how the jewelry pieces are maintained. With this being said, gold plating will inevitably tarnish over time. Here are some maintenance recommendations to prolong the life of your gold plated jewelry. When the jewelry is not being worn, it should be stored in a dry area. The pieces should not be exposed to chemicals such as chlorine, lotions, etc. Gold plated jewelry should always be the last item to be put on and the first to be taken off. Here are some other maintenance recommendations.
How much plating is on your vermeil items?
All of our vermeil items have a minimum of 2.5 microns of gold plating. For any item to be labeled as vermeil they must have at least 2.5 microns of gold plating. If you would like to know more about vermeil, gold filled, and gold plated items please check out our blog.
Can you create custom pieces for me?
Yes, we can definitely custom cast your pieces. Here's some more info about our custom casting process. Please feel free to contact us with the details of what you are looking for.
Can you create custom gold filled items?
Unfortunately, the production process for gold filled is completely different from casting. We can only create pieces that are casted in sterling silver, gold, or brass. Since gold filled is a layered material it cannot be cast like traditional jewelry. Jewelry and charms are made from sheet, tube, or wire that has already been layered. Casting requires the metals to be melted and poured into an investment mold. If we were to do so with the gold-filled material all the metals would melt and lose its gold-filled layers. You can read more on the casting process.
